Developing Feeder Sites
How to Use Free Sites to Increase Your Traffic
Feeder sites are a term used to describe small websites whose sole purpose is to build traffic toward your main affiliate blog. Through the use of the feeder sites described in this part of the affiliate training, you’ll be able to have additional forces of targeted traffic coming to your site.
By using these feeder sites in conjunction with your article marketing and the natural traffic building elements of blogs, you’ll have a large amount of people coming to view your sites.
The Basics of Feeder Sites
Feeder sites are created for traffic purposes, which mean that you don’t want to spend a whole lot of time developing them and hosting them. For this reason, it’s better to use pre-existing content platforms instead of registering and trying to build traffic to a completely different URL.
Optimized domain
Content platforms are similar to article directories in that they let you publish content there for free. However, a major difference is that you’ll get your own optimized domain based on the keyword phrases that you use. You optimized domain combined with the existing page rank power of the content platform can increase your visibility in the search engines.
We mentioned page rank in the previous section, but didn’t go into it extensively. Basically, page rank is a way for Google (the most widely used search engine) to rank how much authority a website has. By collecting data on traffic and calculating in other factors, Google determines how much weight a website has and uses those figures to increase the site’s presence in the search engines.
“Borrow” authority
When you create a site that is an extension of a high page rank site, like by creating one of these feeder sites, you get to “borrow” some of that importance or authority, if you like. This makes your feeder sites show up higher in the search engine rankings and it can drive more traffic your way.
Several options
There are about a half dozen of these content platforms out there, but the best by far to work with are Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com. Build a few feeder sites around each major keyword on your keyword list, all pointing back to your affiliate blog. By creating feeder sites on these larger content networks, you’ll be able to get more exposure for your affiliate blog and increase your income.
