Working With Squidoo
Squidoo is one of the most well known content creation platforms on the ‘net. Since it’s inception it has been a place where people can quickly and easily add content in a pre-existing format. The Squidoo feeder site you will be building is called a “lens.” Lenses can be tweaked to suit your needs based on whatever type of information you’d like to include.
Free to join
It’s free to join Squidoo. Just register and then get ready to build your lens. You’ll need to choose a title for your lens and a domain. Squidoo domains will be set up as:
“http://www.squidoo.com/yourkeywordphrase“.
If the domain of your particular keyword phrase is taken, try using the same keyword phrase with hyphens or underscores, just as you did while searching for your main domain.
The first thing you’ll need for your lens is an article. You can use an article from your blog or even one of the articles that you decide to publish for article marketing. Alternatively, you could have a separate article created for your Squidoo lens.
Modules
The lens is broken up into different modules. There are modules of all kinds, including modules for lists, modules for affiliate programs and, most importantly, text modules. In the edit portion of the system, you need to add the introduction module and three text modules. You can also add in lists and polls to make it more interactive.
The rules
You can be creative with Squidoo and experiment with what works best as far as layout goes. The only rules that you need to follow are to keep the content on the lens closely in line with the keyword in the URL. You can have up to nine links throughout the lens to your affiliate blog.
You can also add the RSS feed for your blog to the lens so that it will stay updated. Updating your lens is very important in its ranking and in making sure that it gets found. Without the RSS feed from your blog, you’ll have to come back to each of your lenses and update them consistently. You can avoid all this by adding an RSS module at the end of your lens and setting it up so that when your blog is updated, your lens is updated as well.
The restrictions
There are some restrictions with regards to what types of products you can promote with Squidoo. Recently there were some major changes about the kind of content allowed. Basically, you cannot create weight loss affiliate program lenses or lenses related to gambling. Adult oriented lenses are also banned.
